What's this?

This Saturday, CrisisCamp will bring together volunteers in Boulder and Denver, to collaborate on technology projects which assist in Haiti's relief efforts by providing data, information, maps and technical assistance to NGOs, relief agencies and the public.

NB: You DO NOT need to print and bring the ticket, even though the signup process and email say to do so.  Save a tree.  And a toner... um... tree.  Don't print.

How will it work?

You're probably wondering where the projects are coming from, and how the day will run.  This is a very fast-moving event, and it has changed a great deal over the last seven days.  That said, there's been a round of camps already (Jan 16th) and lots of lessons learned and integrated.  The primary body of work is listed here on the CrisisCommons site:

Each project listed there (and others being added) will have detailed information regarding specific needs: programmers, mappers, and nontechie people with web skills.  Each project is a national effort, with an overall PM, and each camp location will divide into small teams with a local PM for each project team.  We're running the camps with tight work-and-review cycles (every two hours, with discrete goals for the cycle and a check-in with the overall project at the end of that time).  We'll have (at least) two organizers on-site, handling communications + media, making sure everyone is getting what they need, and staying in the loop with the national effort via chat and phone throughout the day.

Even with all that, you should expect some chaos.  But if it sounds like something you'd like to be involved with, please join us!
